JDT Turns 10!

The Jacksonville Dance Theatre is now in double digits! The 2021-2022 season beginning in September marks our 10th anniversary. When Rebecca Levy, Tiffany Santeiro and I formed JDT, we looked to fill a void for the amazing Jacksonville area dance talent – both local and transplants – who really had no other outlet for their passion. We’ve grown from an organization that first had to make itself known to dancers, past the “family and friends” stage of audiences and donations, to the point where we are now recognized as a major part of the Jacksonville arts community. We’re proud, but humbled, to have put modern dance on the map in Northeast Florida.

We want you to celebrate “JDT 10” with us. Coming out of two seasons affected by the pandemic, we have a lot planned: Two shows at the Florida Theatre, a “Glam Out in Your Brightest Whites Dance Love Life Party” with Nick Fresh, a two-day Dance Film Festival in partnership with the Jessie Ball Dupont Center, and much, much more. And make sure you save the date for The Jax Dance Experience, November 6, 2021 at the historic Florida Theatre in Downtown Jacksonville.

It’s been our good fortune to have corporate and individual benefactors who continually support us every season; we’ve received ongoing arts funding from the City of Jacksonville and the State of Florida; and area foundations have recognized our work with generous grants. We, in turn, have provided dance performances to audiences throughout the area, country, and even internationally; have brought dance education to thousands of local, underserved children through our outreach programs; and helped women in difficult situations begin their recovery through the healing of movement.

We’d like to think of this anniversary in terms of a decade of giving. JDT would like to take a moment to recognize Mr. Jeff Chartrand for his three-year major gift to JDT and honor his generosity. As we look back at the past 10 years, we celebrate a “Decade of Support.” Thank you to everyone who got us here.

We’re also kicking off “JDT 10” with a new look and a new website, new dancers and staff, and a reconfigured leadership team. So, take a look around these new pages, which we feel reflect our growth and position as the only professional modern dance company in Northeast Florida. Let us know what you think!

Finally, we want to thank the JDT board and founders who over the last 10 years have shepherded JDT from start-up to community fixture.

Thank you for 10 great years, and we look forward to many more. The JDT Team #liveinthemovement
